Enhancing Uzbekistan-Europe Partnership: A Discussion on Strengthening Cooperation

Minister of Digital Technologies Sherzod Shermatov held a meeting with the European Union Commissioner for International Partnerships, Jozef Sikela. Among the participants of the meeting was also Abdulakhad Kuchkarov, CEO of IT Park Uzbekistan.

During the discussion, Commissioner Sikela commended Uzbekistan’s remarkable progress across various sectors, highlighting its significant impact on improving the quality of life for the population, including efforts in digital technologies.

In turn, Minister Shermatov outlined the ministry’s strategic objectives and the opportunities being created within the sector.

It was further noted that, given Uzbekistan’s limited access to maritime trade routes, the ministry is actively fostering the development of the ICT sector, which has contributed to a notable increase in IT service exports.

Minister Shermatov underscored the importance of expanding cooperation with European countries, taking into account the distinct characteristics of the European market.

The parties also discussed prospects for collaboration in telecommunications, particularly the joint implementation of a project aimed at providing internet access to remote areas through advanced satellite communications.

Special attention was devoted to enhancing digital connectivity and strengthening resilience in digitalization and telecommunications.

Additionally, discussions encompassed projects under the "Team Europe Initiative on Digital Connectivity in Central Asia".

In conclusion, both sides expressed appreciation for the meeting and reaffirmed their commitment to fostering mutually beneficial cooperation and successfully implementing joint initiatives in the near future.

    For Reference:

The "Connectivity for Central Asia (C4CA)" project aims to enhance digital infrastructure and regional integration, facilitating closer collaboration among Central Asian nations and fostering economic cooperation.

The "Satellite Connectivity for Remote Areas of Central Asia" project seeks to provide reliable internet access to remote and hard-to-reach regions.

This initiative is expected to expand digital opportunities in education, healthcare, and economic development for residents of rural and remote areas with limited or no internet access.
