A roundtable on venture capital with the participation of over 40 venture funds and business angels was held in Tashkent

The Ministry of Digital Technologies of Uzbekistan hosted Investor’s Day in the format of a roundtable discussion titled “Cross-Border Capital Dialogues: Uzbekistan Venture & Angel,” organized in cooperation with IT Park Uzbekistan.

The event brought together more than 40 participants, including representatives of international venture funds, business angels, private investors, and government institutions. The agenda centered on joint investment opportunities, global and regional trends, as well as the barriers limiting capital inflows into the country.

The roundtable was opened by Javoncher Abdullaev, Fund Manager and Board Member of Polyvalent Capital, who delivered the welcoming remarks and outlined the key topics for discussion. Insights into the development of venture markets in other countries were shared by Sara Daniel (Doha Tech Angels), Marcel Dridje (European Business Angel Network), and Alina Trukhina (Utopia Capital Management).

The session brought together prominent representatives of the venture capital industry from the United States, Europe, the Middle East, Turkey, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, and other countries. Among the participants were Robin Butler (Sturgeon Capital, United Kingdom), Jan Davidek (Purple Ventures, Czech Republic), Sergio Argento (Argento Ventures, USA), Michael Lints (Golden Gate Ventures, Qatar), Oliver Hughes (TBC Bank Group), as well as business angels from Georgia, Malaysia, Kenya, and a number of other nations.

During the discussion, participants identified key challenges inhibiting investment, including legal and tax barriers, foreign exchange regulations, and issues of corporate governance. In collaboration with representatives of ministries and regulators, practical measures were proposed to foster a more favorable investment climate, advance co-investment models, and stimulate cross-border deal flow.

The meeting concluded with the participants outlining further steps and affirming their commitment to deepening cooperation. The roundtable represented a significant milestone in strengthening Uzbekistan’s position as an emerging hub for venture capital in Central Asia.
