Minister of Digital Technologies Sherzod Shermatov met with Girts Jaunzems, the newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Latvia to the Republic of Uzbekistan.
The meeting focused on exploring promising areas of bilateral cooperation, with particular emphasis on creating high-paying employment opportunities for young people and expanding prospects for remote work.
It was underscored that interest in learning foreign languages in Uzbekistan continues to grow each year, especially English, Japanese, and Korean, among others. This trend was highlighted as a key factor in fostering collaboration in the fields of ICT and the digital economy.
Minister Shermatov outlined proposals to attract Latvian companies to Uzbekistan and to facilitate their integration as members of IT Park. He also presented the opportunities offered by IT Park, including tax incentives and favorable conditions for member companies.
Special attention was given to the expansion of cooperation in IT services exports. The Minister noted that leading companies from Japan, Korea, and Arab states are already becoming members of IT Park, with their number steadily increasing. He stressed that this sector also holds considerable potential for Latvian enterprises.
The discussions further addressed the development of the startup ecosystem, including support for startups, investment attraction, and the joint implementation of innovative projects.
Ambassador Jaunzems, in turn, emphasised the significant potential for further advancing cooperation across existing areas of engagement. He also announced that Latvian companies intend to participate in “ICT Week Uzbekistan 2025”, which will take place on 23–26 September this year.
In addition, the meeting discussed strengthening collaboration in the areas of cybersecurity, digital partnerships, and the development of digital skills.
On the same day, the Ambassador of Latvia was introduced to the activities of the UZTELECOM center.
