World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and IT Park Discuss Collaboration

Representatives of IT Park, led by Makhliyo Muksinova, Services Export Development Director at IT Park Uzbekistan, held a meeting with a delegation from the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), headed by Ms. Sylvie Forbin, Deputy Director General and Head of the Copyright and Creative Industries Sector.

The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) is an international organization established in 1967 and serves as a specialized agency of the United Nations dedicated to the protection of intellectual property rights. WIPO promotes legal awareness regarding intellectual property, supporting the protection of rights for intellectual creations, and fostering the development of ecosystems related to intellectual property management. The organization also provides assistance to countries in adapting intellectual property principles and related normative documents, thereby facilitating effective governance in this sphere.

During the meeting, the parties explored potential avenues of collaboration and programs offered by IT Park, along with prospects for the export of creative services and joint initiatives aimed at capacity building and training in intellectual property management within Uzbekistan’s IT ecosystem.

The discussion focused on leveraging WIPO’s resources and identifying opportunities for joint programs aimed at strengthening intellectual property capacities in the context of Uzbekistan’s evolving IT ecosystem. Additionally, the exchange of experiences in intellectual property regulation under the Enterprise Uzbekistan project was addressed.

Ms. Sylvie expressed her willingness to support the development of projects emerging from Uzbekistan and to contribute to the enhancement of the country’s intellectual property landscape and IT ecosystem. She highlighted WIPO’s annual global startup competition, designed to support initiatives centered around intellectual property. Ms. Sylvie emphasized her keen interest in the participation of startups from Uzbekistan in this competition, as it would provide new opportunities for young entrepreneurs and innovative projects.

Engagement with WIPO will offer Uzbekistan’s IT business community access to international expertise in protecting intellectual property rights. Collaboration between IT Park Uzbekistan and WIPO marks a significant step towards integrating local IT products into the global ecosystem and will contribute to the growth of the creative industries and the national economy aa a whole. This partnership will also raise legal awareness among local creators and IT professionals in the field of intellectual property, facilitating more effective protection of their rights and establishing favorable conditions for innovative growth.

Tax incentives for startups and foreign investors in Uzbekistan’s IT sector

When I write about Uzbekistan’s tech ecosystem, I keep returning to one theme: opportunity. Unlike in many emerging markets, opportunity here is not just a buzzword, it is being codified into law, built into fiscal frameworks, and delivered through the state-backed IT Park. For startups and foreign investors, the most powerful lever remains the country’s generous package of tax incentives, which have turned IT Park residency into a competitive advantage.
